Summary of Independent Patient Outcome Study

Introduction

The Cognitive FX (CFX) treatment for persistent symptoms after concussion is an intensive one-week treatment characterized by a repetitive cycle of cardiovascular activity, rehabilitation therapy, and relaxation exercises. CFX has received a lot of attention in the Netherlands, but the effectiveness of the treatment is unknown. This study maps changes in people who undergo CFX treatment in the areas of symptom burden, psychological functioning, vestibular-ocular functioning, neurocognitive functions, balance, general functioning, and participation.

Results

The symptom burden of participants was significantly lower after treatment, a meaningful reduction was seen in 77% of the participants. In addition, there was a decrease in self-reported anxiety, depression, fatigue and sleep problems. Improvements were also observed in vestibular-ocular functioning, neurocognitive functioning and participation. Higher levels of fatigue and a lower sense of responsibility were related to a stronger decrease in symptom burden.

Method

The functioning of 64 participants was measured with questionnaires and multidisciplinary measurements before, immediately after and six months after the treatment. Change in functioning was tested with t-tests and reliable change indexes. A multiple regression analysis was used to investigate factors that are related to change in symptom burden.

Insurance

Cognitive FX does not contract with any insurance company. We do this because each insurance plan has a formulary of what they will cover for specific diagnostic codes. We create a personalized treatment plan based on each patient's fMRI scan.

We will provide a superbill of all the therapies that have CPT codes that can be submitted to your insurance company. These expenses can count toward your deductible or out-of-network maximum.

If you need to seek treatment that is contracted with insurance we have a sister clinic Neural Effects.

They can provide treatment based on the insurance formulary and what your insurance plan will reimburse. Like most other insurance-based clinics, the therapies we can offer will be based on what will be covered by your specific insurance plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequent questions regarding pricing and the our treatment packages

Does Insurance Cover Treatment?

We do not bill insurance as a clinic, however, we can provide you with superbill for you to give to your insurance for possible reimbursement. The amount of reimbursement depends on your insurance plan.

Is There a Payment Plan for Treatment?

Cognitive FX offers Care Credit as an option to help with payment for your treatment.

Why don't you bill my insurance?

While insurance has many benefits, the ability of Cognitive FX to customize therapy to the individual and incorporate the most up to date research into therapy would be drastically reduced if we billed through insurance.

How will I know if I should choose EPIC treatment or EPIC Extended Treatment?

During you consultation, the practitioner will discuss which option would be best for you. Some factors they consider are your symptoms, your budget, and the severity of the injury.
